Painting Commission

I was recently commissioned to do a painting. The person had been to the Grand Canyon about twenty years ago with his future wife. He wanted to give her a painting of the memory for her birthday this year.

I tried to portray the afternoon sunlight on the tree and canyon, as well as the shadows.

The customer was very happy with the painting.

WOW! What a wonderful birthday gift! Going to the Grand Canyon would be awesome enough, but having the occasion memorialized in oils by a well-known artist, now that’s the ultimate gift.

I think you did a GREAT job with showing sun and shadows, especially in the tree!

Yellowstone, Grand and Bryce Canyons are my favorite National Parks. Tom, this is a very accurate depiction. The variegated colors there are so beautiful and you have definitely captured the striking combinations. I like the detail of the woman’s clothing in the foreground. What a thoughtful gift!
