On Grandma’s Patio

I remember when my children were young we would visit their grandparents. Usually their cousins would be there, too. Eventually it got too noisy with all of them there, so their grandmother would send them out on her back patio. There was a little table and an assortment of chairs. They would all sit together and eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drink kool aid.

You will notice the sunlight on the patio with dark shadow around it, as well as light and shadow on the kids. They are grown up now, and have children of their own.

This was my first painting to be shown in a national juried show.

Tom, it is no wonder why the world thinks your art is fantastic! Your use of light, perception, and color is phenomenal.

With this being your first show piece, it is evident that many people appreciate your unique style. You have the innate ability to draw out emotion in your viewers. That is why so many of your pieces are successful.

Many of us grown-ups relate to being children on grandma’s patio with our cousins. Memories are strong motivators. Now that I’m a grandma, I can really identify with your depiction of happy times with happy children.

This painting makes me smile because it reminds me of times my brothers and sisters would get together with cousins, and how much fun we had. It is also reminiscent of my children’s early years, and of my grandchildren today. A perfect painting to show the importance of family! Excellent use of sunlight and shadow.
